Knoxville & Cher Set To Drop Out

Johnny Knoxville and Cher have signed up for new comedy The Drop-Out, in which the former plays a 35 year-old career college student who is finally kicked out of the family home by parents sick of his slacker ways. He moves into the house next door, where his 62 year-old neighbour (Cher) takes him in, and he becomes a father figure to her good-for-nothing son (despite being about the same age).

Now, we know what you're thinking: Cher is playing her age?!? We're as shocked as you are, but it must speak well of the script, which she has apparently been wildly enthusiastic about for some time. And it does clearly deal with universal themes - Knoxville's character is obviously just looking for some Love & Understanding, while her character is old enough to know that Love Hurts and will be able to teach him that Love Can Build A Bridge, if he's Strong Enough.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyway, the casting search continues for an actor to play her son, and Ricky Blitt, who wrote The Ringer a few years back (which Knoxville starred in), is writing and directing. Let's hope the result blows us away - Just Like Jesse James.
