Travolta takes on De Niro

Killing Season

When the poster for Robert De Niro/John Travolta matchup **Killing Season arrived last week, we were a little worried by how low-rent it seemed, and by Travolta’s knit cap and beard. The trailer is online over at Apple and if we’re honest, it hasn't completely assuaged our fears.

There was a time when a throwdown between Travolta and De Niro seemed like a great idea. But while De Niro can certainly act tough, the visual of him tromping through the wilderness hunting Travolta (and vice versa) just doesn’t convince us.

De Niro here is playing a reclusive American military veteran who lives deep in the Appalachian Mountains and rarely comes down from his cabin, even for family celebrations. He’s a man who likes his privacy, so the arrival of a Bosnian tourist and fellow hunter (Travolta) is a surprising chance for some company.

Except… his house guest isn’t all he seems. He’s a Serbian war vet who has come to hunt the most dangerous game: Bobby D! Between The Trav’s accent and De Niro’s scowl, this is either going to be a nifty cat-and-mouse affair with two veteran tough guys or… Well, the alternative doesn’t bear thinking about. Killing Season is out in the US on July 12, but doesn’t have a set UK date yet.
