Kellan Lutz Is Hercules

As if it wasn’t enough for Twilight veteran Kellan Lutz to score the role of one famously buff character in Tarzan, he’s now aiming for the double by taking on **Hercules **for director Renny Harlin.

Harlin is gearing up **Hercules 3D **for Nu Image/Millennium, which has been busy developing this take on the Greek demigod.

While most of the plot is undercover for now, The Hollywood Reporter has been able to ferret out that it follows a love story between Herc and the mortal princess of Crete, who was inconveniently promised to his older brother. Siblings, eh? When do they ever agree?

The script’s by Harlin, Sean Hood, Giulio Steve and Hanna Hoeg, and the **Die Hard 2 **director is set to shoot in Bulgaria starting next month. "It takes more than a good physique to portray the most legendary, mythological personality in history – and Kellan has exactly that, personality," Harlin tells The Hollywood Reporter. "He's not afraid to explore the strengths and vulnerabilities of the character, and he impressed me with his passion and heart."

He’ll need to impress more than just the director on the Hercules front, though, as the project will compete with Brett Ratner’s own Herc film, which is also set to kick off in May. That one boasts Dwayne Johnson in the lead with support from Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes, John Hurt, Aksel Hennie, Rebecca Ferguson and Rufus Sewell, who talked about preparing for the film when he visited Empire’s pod-booth last week.
