Just when we thought Gareth Edwards’ new take on Godzilla couldn’t recruit anyone more unexpected or interesting than Bryan Cranston, along comes a giant lizard of possible thesping talent to stomp all over our silly little preconceptions. Because according to Variety, Juliette Binoche is now in negotiations to join the cast.

So far, the only confirmed pieces of casting are Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, who are also in negotiations, with Cranston still mulling the idea.

Naturally, there are no details about who or what Binoche would play, because everything beyond the likelihood of the giant beast trashing cities and possibly something about a scientist is being kept quiet.

But Binoche is is a surprising choice for a big budget tent pole monster movie, providing yet more evidence that this Godzilla could be something well worth watching.

Frank Darabont has been polishing the script for Edwards and Legendary Pictures wants him shooting next month ready for a May 2014 release date.
