As it takes the long walk through the development desert to the promised land of production, droplets of information are leaking about Ridley Scott’s planned take on the Moses story, Exodus. Christian Bale is on board to play the main man, and now it appears he’ll be in conflict with Joel Edgerton, with the in-demand actor in talks to play Egyptian leader Ramses{ =nofollow}.

20th Century Fox is backing the film, which should re-tell the Biblical story with all the heft and epic scope you might expect from the man who made Gladiator. Adam Cooper and Bill Collage wrote the initial drafts, and Scott has brought in Steven Zaillian to polish it up ready to shoot.

All being well, the cameras should be rolling next month, with locales expected to include Spain, Morocco and the UK. This should be just the first of several casting announcements.

Edgerton was last seen in The Great Gatsby and will next crop up in Jane Got A Gun, Felony and Jeff Nichols'** Midnight Special**alongside Michael Shannon and Kirsten Dunst.
