This summer we've seen the US President team up with a ripped cop and a boozy ex-Secret Serviceman to tackle two lots of terrorists in his own backyard. POTUS' next incarnation, Samuel L. Jackson in Big Game, only has a 13 year-old kid to fall back on when his escape pod lands him on foreign soil. Where are Channing Tatum and Gerard Butler when you need them?
Jackson and his bow-and-arrow-wielding teen sidekick (Onni Tommila) are joined by Jim Broadbent, Ray Stevenson and Mehmet Kurtulus in an action-thriller that promises to marry the coming-of-age themes of The Karate Kid with the '80s action tropes of Die Hard. It's directed by Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander, whose Yule-riffing horror Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale was a macabre delight back in 2010.
They won't be hunting Santas this time out, explains the director and co-writer. "Big Game is an action adventure story on an epic scale," he says. "I'm delighted to be taking this genre on as it has always been very close to my heart, as action-packed adventure stories contain the elements that I believe make movies that are worth watching."
The eight-week shoot on the Finnish-German production starts tomorrow in locations across Bavaria. Epect trees aplenty to backdrop the hunt for POTUS and some gnarly booby traps in the classic **Hard Target **style.
