A few months ago we brought you the odd news that Slash from Guns N' Roses had turned movie producer. It now emerges that one of the first films under the Slasher Films banner will be **Wake the Dead, based on the comics by 30 Days of Night co-creator Steve Niles.

Niles confirmed to the LA Times over the weekend that his Frankenstein-riffing graphic novel had struck lucky at Sundance, after a couple of years in development hell. Director Jay Russell has been attached to the project since 2008.

“When Jay and I met with Slash we immediately connected on our love of horror and the way we wanted to see horror films made,” says Niles. "I never dreamed in a million years I’d get to meet Slash, let alone work with him. I’m thrilled!"

Niles' plan is to help "recapture the quality of horror like they made them in the ’70s,” he says. “Horror where you care about the characters and story. With Wake the Dead Jay Russell, Slash and I hope to make a horror movie that sticks with you long after you’ve seen it.”

Big talk, but that '70s vibe seems to be the whole ethos of Slasher Films, and we can only applaud it. The Gunners guitarist has also lent his name to Kansas killer demon flick Nothing to Fear. More will undoubtedly follow...
