James McAvoy Talks Days Of Future Past
'Charles Xavier is in a darker place...'
James McAvoy played the younger Professor Charles Xavier - or, as he calls him, Chucky X - in X-Men: First Class, and he's set to come back as the balding brainiac for Bryan Singer's upcoming X-Men: Days Of Future Past. So while he was promoting his latest, Trance, we had to ask a few X-questions alongside more Danny Boyle-related ones.
Here below are the filleted highlights of our interview with the part-time Macbeth - he's currently at London's Trafalgar Studios punching glass on a nightly basis - which has details on where Professor X's state of mind is right now, and touches on how he had "spoken too soon" about Alan Cumming's involvement with the project. For more on Trance and working with Mr. Boyle, meanwhile, look forward to an extended interview with him up next week.
But before you click play, know this: one) McAvoy recently told Top Gear fans that he indulged in a bit of golf buggy racing with his co-star Michael Fassbender on the set of X-Men: First Class and two) he's recently been fitted for his new costume for Days Of Future Past, and it's definitely going to have a distinct '70s vibe...
While McAvoy does Macbeth, Bryan Singer is busy prepping Days Of Future Past, adapted from the iconic X-Men comics run which saw our mutant heroes fighting to stop a future where they’re rounded up and put in internment camps or killed by Sentinels. If you haven't already, be sure to read it before you see the film as it really is very good indeed.
The current cast list boasts (alongside Fassbender and McAvoy), Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult from First Class and Hugh Jackman, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Anna Paquin from the original X-Men trilogy, plus Peter Dinklage as another character from the comics series, though his exact role is being kept quiet for now. Oh, and Omar Sy. And Fan Bingbing. It’ll hit screens on July 18 next year. Trance, meanwhile, is out next Wednesday, March 27, and you can check out the trailer below.
