It was a good weekend to be young(ish) and stupid or old and tough this weekend, because both the latest Jackass outing and Bruce Willis’ gang of grizzled operatives in Red performed above expectations for solid starts. **Jackass 3D **in particular enjoyed a massive jump in its opening weekend success, nabbing $50 million from American audiences eager to watch the team get hit with paintballs, attempt to stand against the jet stream of a standing plane and drink sweat collected from a large man’s anus after he'd worked out. And you thought Idiocracy was fiction? Still, Johnny Knoxville and co will be celebrating this week, probably with poo cocktails.

Willis and the producers of Red will also be happy, as the adaptation of the Warren Ellis graphic novel also did gangbusters, opening to $22.5 million, which is a solid result for them.

The Social Network did well again, dropping down to third after a couple of weeks at the top, adding $11 million to its total and staying ahead of true-life horse pic Secretariat, which slipped one place to fourth and $9.5 million. Life as we Know It took fifth place and $9.2 million, rounding out the top five.

Legend of the Guardians flapped down to sixth place, making $4.2 million, while The Town took $4 million in seventh. At eighth we find My Soul To Take, dropping quickly in the charts and grabbing $3.1 million while it can. Easy A fell one place to ninth with $2.6 million and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps was 10th with $2.3 million.
