Hilary Duff Is A Bonnie Lass

We don’t know about you, but when we think of Hilary Duff, all we can picture in our mind’s eye is a pretty lamb, gambolling around in a pretty field under a pretty sun. We’re not saying she’s bland, you see, but the once and former Lizzie McGuire has a CV that contains the likes of Cheaper By The Dozen (and its sequel), Material Girls and A Flamin’ Soddin’ Cinderella Story – and it doesn’t get much more bland than that.

Clearly, though, Duff herself has decided to address the situation by signing on to star as Bonnie Parker in The Story Of Bonnie And Clyde, a new version of, erm, the story of Bonnie and Clyde.

Two of the most infamous bank robbers of all time, Bonnie Parker and her beau, Clyde Barrow, went on a four-year crime spree between 1931 and 1935 during which they pulled off dozens of raids on banks, petrol stations and small stores, and killed at least nine police officers.

Their story was committed to film, of course, in Arthur Penn’s Bonnie & Clyde, which starred Faye Dunaway as Bonnie and Warren Beatty as Clyde, and which was perhaps most famous for their iconic death scene in which the pair are cut down by hundreds of bullets.

Penn’s movie has proved suitably definitive to scare other filmmakers off… until now, that is. Tonya S. Holly is the brave soul who will call the shots on this new, indie version of the story, working from her own script.

Kevin Zegers, best known for brief appearances in the likes of Dawn Of The Dead and Wrong Turn, will play Clyde. Natalie Canerday and Rance Howard have also signed onto the movie, which will shoot in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

So, does Duff have the chops? Will she reveal hitherto unforeseen depths as an actress? Only time will tell.
