Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince broke another box-office record this weekend, that of biggest worldwide five-day opening ever, with $396.7m. And yes, the sun rose in the East this morning.
That beat Spider-Man 3's $381.7m international take comfortably, even if Half-Blood Prince is only (only!) the sixth-highest grossing US opening ever, with $159.7m there in its opening five days - a full $20m ahead of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix's take at the same stage.
Waaay behind Potter in second place, but still taking a respectable sum, is Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs with another $17.7m, adding up to $152m in 3 weeks. That's even more impressive when you consider that it's made more than Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (in third place with another $13.8m and $364m overall in the US) in the rest of the world, with a whopping $581m globally.
Bruno, in fourth place, suffered a precipitous 72.7% decline on last week, taking just $8.4m for $49.6m in two weeks. Behind his hotpants-clad posterior, **The Hangover **and The Proposal continued to post much smaller drops, both under 25%, with $8.31m and $8.29m respectively.
The only other major new release was 500 Days Of Summer in twelfth place with $838,000 from just 27 screens. That gives it the best per-screen average on the list, even beating Potter, but somehow we're not entirely convinced that Summer wins overall.
