There haven’t been many images of Marvel’s delightfully weird sci-fi Guardians Of The Galaxy out yet (aside from some promotional cups), but you can expect that to change soon, given that promotion for the film will start to ramp up around the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Hasbro is getting a march on the competition, releasing an image of its official tie-in figures in a Toy Fair poster, online via Yahoo.

Guardians, lest we forget, follows Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), who nicks a powerful object that makes him the target of extra-terrestrial villain Ronan (Lee Pace). To stay alive, Quill has to team up with a band of outsiders, each with their own agenda: the deadly, green-skinned Gamora (Zoe Saldana), hulking Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), undersized but heavily armed Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper), and towering tree creature Groot (voiced and performance captured by Vin Diesel).

These figures are a mixed bag: the detail on Drax’s markings is great, and it’s hard to go wrong with Groot’s living plant features. But Quill looks less like Pratt and more like some generic doll face in Star-Lord’s outfit. And is that really supposed to be Zoe Saldana? Plus, Bradley Cooper will be pissed off – that looks NOTHING like him. Except in the eyes, perhaps.

With the Guardians Of The Galaxy trailer due soon (check out a snippet of test footage below, courtesy of MovieWeb), we’ll get a fresh proper look at the gang in action, with director James Gunn labouring away to have them ready for their August 1 bow. The toys, meanwhile, will arrive in July and go on sale for $19.99 each.
