With its tough, true-life subject matter, writer/director Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station proved to be a huge hit at Sundance this year, scoring both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award. Now we can all get a look at what moved people to such a degree as the trailer arrives via Yahoo.

Fruitvale Station stars Chronicle’s Michael B. Jordon as Oscar, a 22-year-old man in San Francisco’s Bay Area just trying to make his way in the world. With a young daughter to support and a loving partner in Melonie Diaz’s Sophina, Oscar’s life slowly seems to be turning around.

Yet he’s hardly an angel: he’s got a criminal past and is having trouble finding work. And when he and Sophina head out to celebrate New Year’s, his train ride turns terrifying…

With the likes Of Kevin Durand, Chad Michael Murray, Ahna O’Reilly and Oscar winner Octavia Spencer, Fruitvale Station is set to arrive in the US on July 12. There’s no UK date set yet, but hopefully that will change after its Cannes screenings.
