Apollo 13 aside, space exploration in the movies never seems to end well. In Last Days On Mars, a team of scientists discover bacterial life on the red planet, but before you can say “Nobel Prize” they are fighting for their lives.

The movie shot in Jordan and Elstree, where it wrapped last week, with an impressive ensemble cast that includes Elias Koteas, Romola Garai, Johnny Harris and Liev Schreiber – pictured here as Vincent, an astronaut facing a bloody reality.

Last Days On Mars marks the feature debut of director Ruairi Robinson, whose background is in commercials and some rather fancy short films – including [the impressive Blinky™, which you can watch here](http://www.shortoftheweek.com/2011/03/20/blinky%E2%84%A2/2%84%A2/).

“His work has a real breadth of imagination,” says Liev Schreiber. “When at looked at it and read this script, I thought, ‘That’s going to be a really interesting person to work with’. I guess, for me, the most valuable asset [in a director] is imagination – a really specific and bold imagination and visual ability, which I think Ruairi’s really got.”

You can find out for yourself when Last Days On Mars opens in 2013.
