A Female Expendables?

As the **Expendables **return to cinemas, someone is of the belief that while Sly, Arnie and the rest are fine as they stand (and shoot, and run, and jump), what’s really missing from their testosterone-fuelled adventures are a few tough women to show them how it’s done. Now Adi Shankar and his 1984 Private Defense Contractors production company has hired Black List writer Dutch Southern to work on a female take on the hero team.

Variety reports that Shankar’s company, which previously backed the likes of The Grey and **Machine Gun Preacher, **is lining up to fully finance the film and has already begun sounding out prominent actresses associated with the action genre. So there’s a chance we could see the likes of Linda Hamilton, Cynthia Rothrock, Sigourney Weaver, Carrie Anne Moss, and young bloods such as Michelle Rodriguez, Gina Carano and even Summer Glau involved. Of course, it’s all at a very early stage, so any casting right now is merely wish-fulfilment.

Southern has some experience with action, having penned Hoof Harrington’s Greatest Hits, described as the tale of a semi-retired hit man that blends Die Hard with Wes Anderson’s style.
