September 1 may have been and gone, but for us muggles a trip back to Hogwarts is now only a matter of weeks away, with Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald featuring a partial return to the magical boarding school. The final trailer for the latest Wizarding World entry has just apparated onto the internet, teasing yet more Beasts, a fresh look at Grindelwald’s rise, and a few extra glimpses of that Scottish castle. Oh, and Dumbledore dispatches Newt to Paris for ‘a cup of tea’… or not.

There’s a fair bit to unpack from this trailer – it looks like fans will be in for a treat in the sequence with big bad Gellert Grindelwald escaping his captors, and the sibling rivalry between Newt and his older brother Theseus (Callum Turner) looks to bring some fun. There’s also an intriguing shot of Newt in a World War I scene with aircraft flying overhead. And did we just get an unexpected origin for Voldemort’s beloved snake Nagini linked to Claudia Kim’s newcomer, the Maledictus?

Most of all, what the new trailer seems to confirm is that The Crimes Of Grindelwald will more fully flesh out the shape of the series going forward – if the last Fantastic Beasts was an introduction to our main characters, this one’s all about establishing who Grindelwald is (in basic terms, he’s Wizard Hitler) and who’s on each side of the upcoming war. It’s all pretty thrilling. We’ll find out exactly what Grindelwald’s crimes are when the film hits UK cinemas on 16 November.
