In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war. If these words mean nothing to you then you clearly spent too much of your childhood playing outside in the sunshine and not enough hunched over tiny lead space marines with a paint brush while desperately trying to get the Space Wolves logo right. They are, of course, synonymous with classic tabletop game Warhammer 40,000, which is enjoying its movie debut with Martyn Pick's upcoming feature film, Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie.

For those who don't know their Eldar Harlequins from their greater daemons of Nurgle, Warhammer 40k is set in the titular year some time hence, where humanity has conquered the stars. It's not your average space adventure though - this is the kind of future that would have had Gene Roddenberry crying for his mother. 40k features a darkly gothic sci-fi universe populated with technologically advanced versions of classic fantasy races such as the orks and the Eldar (elves).

It's a gloriously realised universe and Ultramarines marks its first foray to the screen. With vocal talent from Terence Stamp, Sean Pertwee and Steven Waddington, **Ultramarines **follows the iconic chapter of Space Marines as they fight off the forces of chaos in the service of humanity's emperor.

We have the very first look at the movie below.
