Originally going by the title Colonia which, while intriguing, always had the ring of a nasty intestinal complaint about it, Emma Watson’s new movie is now just called The Colony. Florian Gallenberger’s historical thriller, set around the Pinochet coup in 1970s Chile, has a new trailer and a UK release to share below.

The Colony finds Watson’s Lena forced to undertake a dangerous mission when her partner, Daniel (Daniel Brühl), is abducted by the Chilean secret police in 1973 following the military coup. Lena tracks him down to Colonia Dignidad, an anti-communist sect run by a lay preacher Paul Schäfer played by John Wick baddie Michael Nyqvist. There she joins the cult to find Daniel. Extreme moral complexities ensue.

Despite its banner talent, this one has had a tricky journey to the screen. Signature Entertainment has now picked it up and it’s getting a day-and-date UK release on July 1.
