Ellen Page To Star For Drew Barrymore?

How many actresses can you name who's name rhymes with "Schmellen Schmage"? Well, other than Helen Gage, who was a wonderful second donkey in our infant school nativity play but sadly never made the leap to Hollywood on account of her predilection for liberally urinating at inopportune moments, we can only come up with Ellen Page. Which, according to the screenwriter of Drew Barrymore's directorial debut, makes her the lead in Whip It.

In an interview with Film School Rejects, Shauna Cross, who wrote the screenplay for Whip It, based on her own novel Derby Girl, suggested that she's heard that an actress who rhymes with "Schmellen Schmage" is in talks for the lead. Whip It will tell the story of a girl who discovers herself through the potentially hazardous, yet none-more-camp, world of roller derby.

We haven't read Derby Girl, but since the character is described as a "pretty, precocious teen full of sarcasm and wit and hijinks" we can fully imagine Page in the role. Also, she's brilliant.
