Summit Entertainment has picked up dark thriller Elevator Men, an original screenplay by former DreamWorks exec Marc Haimes that promises an altogether grittier take on the vampire mythology.
Haimes, whose CV practically screams 'taut thriller' with DreamWorks production credits for Red Eye, **Disturbia **and **Collateral **to his name, says the screenplay offers a less romanticised look at vampire/human interaction than **Twilight **or HBO's True Blood.
"It's a reaction to all of these stories now - TV shows and movies - that play this kind of romantic, fantastical, sexy aspect of getting involved with monsters," Haimes said. "This is the dark, sinister version of what really happens when you decide you're going to get close to really bad things." So not like Lesbian Vampire Killers then.
With more of a psychological edge, the vampires in **Elevator Men **
play twisted mind games with people, including one involving an elevator (hence the title... although expect it to change in development). Haimes says the script explores 'the grim reality of bedding down with a monster'. The money-man on the project is Mark Gordon who was Oscar-nominated for Saving Private Ryan.
