DreamWorks Plans All Of Me Remake
Body swap comedy getting new life
The remake bell rang once more in Hollywood today as DreamWorks pushed ahead on a new version of Steve Martin / Lily Tomlin comedy All Of Me.
In the 1984 original, which Carl Reiner brought to life, a millionairess (Tomlin) discovered she was dying and, in an attempt to gain immortality, transferred her spirit into the body of a nerdy attorney (Martin). Hilarity – and some real, actual emotion – ensues as the two try to find a way to work together.
In the new version, which currently coasts a script by Never Been Kissed / The Vow writers Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, the gender is getting a switch itself, with a guy’s soul travelling into a woman’s body.
DreamWorks plucked the project out of turnaround limbo last year, but is only now setting about doing something with it. At the moment, the script is bubbling away in development with no director or cast attached yet. Still, whoever does take it on will be following in the footsteps of Reiner, Martin and Tomlin, and there are probably easier jobs out there. Such as lion taming. Or bomb disposal…
