In development by game manufacturers Ubisoft since at least 2009, Splinter Cell has crept quietly through development hell, passed between the likes of DreamWorks and Paramount. It's currently crouched somewhere in the ductwork of New Regency with American Hustle's Eric Singer hard at work on the script.

The film, like the game, will focus on Sam Fisher, a secret operative for shadowy government organisation Third Echelon, dedicated to taking down terrorists. With 23 million copies sold, it's got a big following ready to see it on screen, but also prepared to be critical.

Now that Liman is aboard, New Regency will be pushing ahead with plans to kick off shooting in August for a planned 2015 release date. Edge Of Tomorrow, meanwhile, is out on May 30.
