It might seem like a no-brainer for the current incumbent of the TARDIS to stick-around after just one year, but in a post-Christopher Eccleston world, there's never been quite a guarantee. And while the Beeb hadn't confirmed her return, Jodie Whittaker has gone on record to say she'll definitely be back for another series of Doctor Who.

"I really can’t wait to step back in and get to work again," Whittaker told The Hollywood Reporter. "It’s such an incredible role. It's been an extraordinary journey so far and I'm not quite ready to hand it over yet."

Despite some naysayers trying to point to dropping ratings, Whittaker has been enjoying a critically acclaimed and successful run as the Doctor, with the current series finale premiering today and the annual special set for New Year's Day

(find the trailer for that below). The cameras will likely be rolling early next year for a return.... Brilliant! ... In 2020. Less brilliant!
