Well, that didn’t take too long: mere weeks after the search for someone to play Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hit the news radars, director Marc Webb has announced his choice of Dane DeHaan.

Most readers will probably recognise the actor as Andrew, the troubled, telekinetic teen who causes so many problems in Chronicle. But he’s also been seen this year in the likes of Lawless and, very briefly, Lincoln.

DeHaan is a great choice for the role, especially given his work on Chronicle, and the intensity/humanity he brought to the role. Harry, of course, is the son of Norman Osborn and who becomes a friend to Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield). But we all know that things go decidedly sour down the road.

Right now, the filmmakers are largely keeping quiet about what we can expect from the further adventures of Spidey, but with Garfield and Stone back as Peter and Gwen, and Shailene Woodley all but confirmed as Mary Jane, the plot will surely thicken. The job of chucking in narrative Oxo cubes has gone to Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman, with Jeff Pinkner also taking a crack at the original draft written by James Vanderbilt.

DeHaan will also be seen in Beat generation murder mystery Kill Your Darlings and true-life West Memphis Three drama Devil’s Kno****t, both of which should hit next year. The** Amazing Spider-Man** sequel is scheduled to swing in on April 18, 2014.
