He might be best known right now as troubled former US Marine officer Nicholas Brody on TV's Homeland, but Damian Lewis has not abandoned the big screen. He’s locking in a meaty role in Werner Herzog’s **Queen Of The Desert.
Herzog’s latest finds Nicole Kidman as Gertrude Bell, the iconic explorer, writer, archaeologist, peacemaker, map maker and attaché for the British Empire who helped shape international politics at the dawn of the 20th century.
Lewis is joining a cast that already includes Jude Law and Robert Pattinson to play Lt. Colonel Charles Doughty-Wylie, an unhappily married English war hero who starts a passionate affair with Bell and exchanges love letters with her during her travels. Their romance is cut short when he’s killed on active duty in Gallipoli. Cameras are set to start rolling in December for the film, which has seen several changes on its way to the screen, including a switch from Naomi Watts to Kidman.
When he’s not dealing with the latest twists and turns on TV, Lewis can be found in Romeo And Juliet and he’s also at work on The Silent Storm with Andrea Riseborough and Kate Dickie.
