Though George Clooney is already set to make one exciting, talent-laden crime-centric project a reality with The Monuments Men, he’s been quietly putting the pieces into place for another. He and producing partner Grant Heslov are working with Argo writer Chris Terrio on an untitled heist movie – and Paul Greengrass is on board to direct.
Clooney and Heslov have a history with Terrio, as they picked up the rights to Joshuah Berman’s original article about the Argo affair and hired Terrio to write it. That worked out well for all involved, as the film, under the direction of Ben Affleck, is now a serious Oscar contender and box office hit.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the deals for this new movie – which takes place in the New York crime world – were mostly made more than a year ago, but it’s had to wait for everyone to become available. Even when Terrio finishes the script, it’ll likely still have to hold on for Greengrass and Clooney to finish their latest respective jobs. Greengrass is working on pirate drama Captain Philips and has **Barca ** on his To Do list; Clooney has the aforementioned Monuments Men and potentially also 1952 on his cards.
Terrio has also been in demand, even before Argo arrived: he’s writing the remake of French thriller Tell No One for Warners and has worked on A Murder Foretold for Paramount.
But the chance to see George Clooney in a Paul Greengrass film? That’s surely worth waiting for…
