Christopher McQuarrie On For Mission: Impossible 5
We’ve had false readings of clues and a little jumping of the gun, but Christopher McQuarrie has now taken to Twitter to confirm he’s directing the next instalment of the Mission: Impossible franchise.
McQuarrie has been the presumed choice to call the shots on Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise)’s next adventure for a while now, though there has been no official announcement beyond the tweet. Presumably, this points to negotiations stretching out before a deal could be made.

Iron Man 3’s Drew Pearce is aboard to write the script, and we expect him to be working closely with McQuarrie, who directed Cruise in Jack Reacher and has been the actor’s go-to script doctor for years.
Nothing has been released about the potential plot or other casting, but we wouldn’t be surprised if M:I veterans Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg pop up alongside possible returning agent William Brandt (Jeremy Renner) from Ghost Protoco**l** - even if he never quite seemed to fit in as the potential New Hunt everyone was discussing before the movie arrived.
So now the question remains, who will re-mix the classic theme this time, and what huge building or natural structure will Cruise clamber around? All right, so there are more important issues, but at least we know it’s all finally happening. Tell us what you think of the director choice in the comments or on Twitter.
