Chris Hemsworth On For New Thriller

Michael Mann's attached to direct

We already know that Chris Hemsworth isn’t content to simply sit around in his Asgardian togs between Thor: The Dark World and reporting for duty on the Avengers sequel. He’s attached to several movies, but Variety reports he’s also now signing on for a new Michael Mann project.

Mann, who hasn’t made a film since 2009’s Public Enemies, is planning an untitled technofear thriller backed by Legendary Pictures. Though he’s been developing other projects alongside it, he’s been working on this new film for more than a year, co-writing the script with Morgan Davis.

He’s keeping the main details close to his chest for now, but apparently it’ll be set in a world of cyber threats and software viral attacks.

Legendary will be hoping this one comes together, as Mann has tried to get various movies off the ground in the last couple of years with no success. Hemsworth, meanwhile, has time on his schedule since Steven Spielberg opted to shift the production of Robopocalypse back and, though he’s got a few options floating around (including Moby Dick-inspiring tale In The Heart Of The Sea, which Ron Howard may direct, and the unknown quantity that is the Snow White And The Huntsman sequel), this could be a good fit. Plus, the chance to work with Mann must hold plenty of appeal…

Thor: The Dark World will be upon us on October 30.
