Oscar winner Charlize Theron continues to tour the female directors of Hollywood as she signs on to work with Boys Don't Cry director Kimberly Peirce in The Ice At The Bottom Of The World. Theron won her Oscar working for director Patty Jenkins, and has obviously decided that filming with women is the way ahead. Sisters are, apparently, doing it for themselves. Since her performance in Monster, Theron has signed on to play an assassin for Girlfight director Karyn Kusama in Aeon Flux, and the woman at the centre of the first successful sexual harassment case in Class Action for Whale Rider's Nikki Caro. Frankly, it's about time that big stars signed on for female directors, so three cheers for Charlize! The Ice At the Bottom of the World is an adaptation of the book of the same name by Mark Richards, which contains ten stories set in the Southern US, centred on a cross-section of redneck characters and based around themes of love, birth and death. It's not clear yet which of the stories is the basis for the film version. We all have lots of time to speculate, however, as shooting won't start until autumn 2005, so we aren't likely to see this until mid-2006 at the earliest.
