Audiences will get to see Tom Hanks as the titular mariner, caught in a hostage crisis when Somali pirates board his boat and take him prisoner. It's all based on a true story, but as you'd expect from Greengrass it aims to take a nuanced look at the affair, examining the desperation of the pirates as well as the trauma of their prisoner.

Captain Phillips hits cinemas on October 18 in the UK; the London Film Festival runs from October 9 to October 20. Both Greengrass and Hanks are expected to attend the opening night, so this should start things off with a bang.
