Marvel is really cranking up the pace on First Avenger: Captain America. Just over a week ago, the fledgling studio brought Joe Johnston on board as director, and now it’s hired writing team Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely to give Cap stuff to say and do.
The duo first came to prominence with their excellent script for the acclaimed HBO movie, The Life And Death Of Peter Sellers, which brought them to the attention of Andrew Adamson. He brought the pair on board both Narnia films, The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe and Prince Caspian – which surely gave them an appetite for big-budget fare.
And they don’t come much bigger, or budgetier, than Captain America. Easily the biggest Marvel character yet to arrive on the big screen (sorry, Stilt-Man), there’s a lot riding on the movie, which will take place in World War II and will tell the tale of how scrawny soldier Steve Rogers became the figurehead of the US Army.
But, given that Cap will also play a big part in The Avengers movie that will open a couple of months after his own flick, we imagine that Markus and McFeely might have to bear that in mind when writing First Avenger.
Marvel’s Kevin Feige will produce the film, which is set for release on May 6, 2011.
