Brenton Thwaites Set For Gods Of Egypt
But as a human...
Gods Of Egypt has been busy building up its pantheon, with Gerard Butler, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Geoffrey Rush doing the deity thing for director Alex Proyas. And what of the human side of the story? The film has its first mortal, in the shape of Maleficent's Brenton Thwaites.
With a script by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, the movie finds Butler as Set, god of the desert (and storms and foreigners) mutilating and murderlising his own brother, Osiris. Set’s nephew, Horus (Coster-Waldau) seeks revenge, particularly when he learns the killing was just step one on Set’s plan to kill Ra, father to Set and Osiris.
Thwaites will be Bek, a human thief with little time for gods, but who gets involved when Set curses a woman named Zaya, and hopes the deity’s death will set her free. The Australian actor has been scoring a few solid parts recently, playing Sleeping Beauty's love interest Prince Philip in Maleficent and leading roles in Ride and Signal. He’s currently shooting The Giver alongside Jeff Bridges.
