Breaking Bad: The Movie?

Bryan Cranston says it's not far-fetched

Breaking Bad: The Movie?

As we clutch to the knowledge that we still have 16 more episodes – stretched across two years and two mini-seasons – of Breaking Bad to come, we’re finally coming to terms with the idea that creator Vince Gilligan has told the story he wants to and we’ll have to let go of the show after 2013. But wait! Here comes Bad star Bryan Cranston with a teasing notion that we may not quite have seen the back of Walter White and co.

Hold off on breaking out your celebratory meal of meth and fried chicken, though, yo. Nothing, and we repeat this so it can be heard in a loud writing-voice, nothing has even been discussed properly yet. This is simply Cranston speculating. Still, on with the rumour mongering!

While Cranston had told the LA Times previously that Gilligan said we couldn’t imagine having enough story to fill the final 16 shows, it now appears that his hard-working writing staff have been cranking out the ideas. “Vince feels that now we have too much story,” Cranston says, laughing. “We could actually go beyond those 16 episodes.”

So what does he think about the idea of a new Bad project, one for the big screen? “It’s not far-fetched,” Cranston says. “I wouldn’t mind visiting that possibility. And this is coming from a guy who doesn’t know anything of how the show’s going to end. If it doesn’t end up in a total apocalypse, who knows? Maybe we could revisit Walter White a year down the road and see where his life has gone. If he’s still alive, that is.” Plus, let's not forget that if there's a movie, any movie, made anywhere these days, Cranston has a contractual obligation to at least consider appearing in it.

There you have it… It’s something to think about at least, even if Breaking Bad: The Movie would be a dark and violent prospect. And while we’ll likely be happy with whatever Gilligan and his gang have planned for Walter, Jesse and the rest, there’s always that itch in the back of our minds that could potentially see more...

Breaking Bad kicks off its fifth season on July 15 across the pond. While there’s no airdate yet for the UK, the fourth season hits DVD in October, so what better time to tie in? Hint, UK channels. HINT.
