While monster mash-ups have a long, if not always proud, tradition (hellooo, The Asylum), someone always seems to want to reinvent the wheel. The graphic novel Savage, which features Bigfoot battling werewolves has been snapped up for a film version.

Production companies Outlier and Pathbender have grabbed the rights to the Images Comics title, which was created by Jeff Frank and written by him, alongside Dan Wickline and Steve Niles (with art by Mike Mayhew).

The plot for the film version focuses on a mysterious killer who targets supernatural creatures. While looking for someone with enough smarts and skills to take over his work, he lands smack dab in the middle of a battle between the crypto-zoological world’s favourite hairy beast and those legendarily hirsute menaces. They can feel free to use “The fur will fly!” as the tagline.

James Cotton is set to direct the film, but The Wrap’s report offers no details of who might be writing it or when the cameras will be rolling.
