Berdejo to direct POD
[.REC] writer gets sci-fi gig
One of the filmmakers responsible for the recent resurgence in Spanish horror, writer of ace frightener [.REC] Luis Berdejo is swapping genres to write and direct Gold Circle’s upcoming sci-fi thriller POD.
Far from the squeal-filled Bodysnatchers spin-off the title might suggest, POD sees Berdejo put down the handheld for what’s described as an epic, intergalactic story of love, adventure and discovery. POD is based on an original idea and will be the Basque’s first crack at writing an English-language script.
Berdejo is currently putting the finishing touches on his feature-length directorial debut, supernatural thriller The New Daughter with Kevin Costner and Pan’s Labryinth star Ivana Baquero, mooted for a summer 2009 release, before swapping back to his native language to direct his first script, Jennifer Can.
