Benicio del Toro is bringing his drowsy menace to Sicario this week as a mysterious Latin American figure. Is he an assassin? Is he a Fed? Is he just some bloke along for the ride? It’s a similar story in S**tar Wars: Episode VIII **where he’s recently signed up for villain duties. Beyond that, we know little.

When Empire caught up with the actor for Sicario’s press tour,** Star Wars** popped up in conversation. Needless to say, his exact character was not up for discussion. Instead, we wondered what his own relationship with the franchise had been and what he felt his director, Rian Johnson, would be bringing to the world of ’sabers and Sith Lords? Click below to hear what he had to say.

“[He’s going to] bring a cool, sci-fi realism, if I may say that,” del Toro explained of Johnson’s aesthetic. “I love his film Looper, and I just like talking to him about the film. He’s one of those new talented people that Star Wars is hiring to infuse the franchise with new steroids.”

The actor will be appearing alongside Episode VII's Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac when Johnson’s sequel lands on May 26, 2017. Catch him in a substantial return to form this Thursday when Sicario hits UK cinemas. Click here for a look at the trailer.
