In just over a month, Marvel’s Avengers will be re-assembling for a third time — and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are going to have their work cut out for them. The new Avengers: Infinity War trailer has arrived, teasing the chaos that’s set to reign down on the MCU as we know it thanks to the long-awaited arrival of the Mad Titan himself, Thanos.
The trailer zones firmly in on the story of the upcoming 19th Marvel Cinematic Universe film — Thanos has picked up two infinity stones, the complete collection of which will give him universe-destroying powers, and he’s heading to Earth to pick up the rest. The bad news for Vision is that the Mind Stone is embedded in his head, while Doctor Strange is in the firing line as the guardian of the Time Stone, aka the Eye of Agamotto. Speaking of Guardians, Peter Quill's gang is all here too, and the trailer shows Gamora filling in Tony Stark on Thanos’ backstory and grand plan.
There’s plenty to get excited about here — Iron Man’s new rocket-boosted suit, a joyous ego clash when Quill meets Stark (“Let’s talk about this plan of yours — I think it’s good, except it sucks”), and Captain America attempting to take on Thanos with his bare hands. Something tells us he couldn’t do that all day. Then there’s Star Lord leaping onto platforms that Doctor Strange is conjuring in mid-air, an extra-chunky new Hulkbuster suit, and a battle in Wakanda that looks bigger than any other action set-piece in the entire MCU so far. Phew.
Avengers: Infinity War arrives in the UK on 26 April, which is only 41 days away. Not that we’re counting. Where’s that time-twisting Eye of Agamotto when you need it?
