With an Oscar in her pocket (not literally; those things are far too cumbersome to cart about everywhere), Anne Hathaway is slowly building the next stage of her career. She’s locked on to The Lifeboat, which has been nabbed by Working Title and Focus Features{ =nofollow}.

William Broyles Jr. is already hard at work adapting Charlotte Rogan’s historical novel, which focuses on Grace Winter, a young woman standing trial for murder in 1914.

As part of her testimony, Grace recalls how she and her new husband survived the sinking of a transatlantic ship called the Empress and ended up stranded in a lifeboat. Trouble is, there were too many people aboard, and the survivors starting to think about getting rid of one or two of them. Was Grace part of a plot? Or an innocent victim of a whispering campaign? The truth, we suspect, will eventually come out.

Hathaway is closely involved with this one, planning to produce as well as star once a director can be found to take on the challenge. She’s busy in the meantime working on Song One and voicing Jewel again for Rio 2. She also has a reunion with Dark Knight Rises director Chris Nolan planned for Interstellar.
