Andrew Garfield Finds 99 Homes

An indie property drama, not a run of mad purchases

No, Andrew Garfield has not quite made enough money from his Amazing Spider-Man gig to buy 99 houses, unless he has an as-yet undiscovered, obsessive need to collect Sylvanian Families dwellings. He has, however, signed on to star in indie drama 99 Homes.

Writer/director Ramin Bahrani has worked up the concept and script, which follows a man losing his home to foreclosure in a none-more-topical tale.

Out of cash and facing ruin, he winds up finding work with the very estate agent who took his house and is soon both evicting homeowners and helping his boss embezzle money from the government. Yet while his wonga worries dissipate, his moral troubles rise up and destroy his peace of mind. Shades of Boiler Room and even Wall Street here...

There’s no word on when this one will start shooting, especially since Garfield has his Spider-duties (both filming and press) to think about and is also due to work with Martin Scorsese on Silence. He was also one of the more impressive panel performers at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, and you can read about in our full report on The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s appearance at the event. And don't forget that the new issue of Empire has a feature about the new Spider-movie and lots more...
