She’s delivered impressive, memorable performances in historical romances Anna Karenina and A Royal Affair, and Alicia Vikander is looking to do the same in something that’s right up to date. She’s in negotiations to star with Oscar Isaac and Domhnall Gleeson in Alex Garland’s **Ex Machina.

Garland is making the film his directorial debut after writing the script and setting it up with regular collaborators DNA Films.

Gleeson will star as the young employee handpicked by a billionaire (Isaac) to spend a week at his remote estate and test out a new piece of technology his Bill Gates-style boss has invented.

When he arrives, he discovers that the new kit is a highly advanced female robot, with Vikander now close to a deal for the robo-role.

She’ll next be seen in fantasy adventure The Seventh Son, which stars Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore, plus The Fifth Estate alongside Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange. And she’s also just worked on Son Of A Gun with Ewan McGregor.
