Original Title:

In The Name Of

It has good intentions, but this melodramatic exposé of Polish provincial prejudice loses its way as an alcoholic priest becomes obsessed with a troubled youth. Scrupulously non-judgmental, it lacks the narrative control to match its grim authenticity.

As tough and sparse as its setting, this character study from Elles director Malgorzata Szumowska starts promisingly but becomes a stodgy watch.
