Memphis Belle

Michael Caton-Jones hymn to WWII heroics dramatises an American B-17 Bomber crew - assayed by, among others Matthew Modine, Eric Stoltz, Harry Connick Jnr - fly on one final mission over Germany before they all get to go home.

On the ground, the paper thin characterisations do little to grab but things really take off during the drama filled sortie, complete with stirring shots of the aircraft in flight, numerous thrills and spills and a strong sense of camaraderie evoked by the likeable cast.

A sentimental drama that’s 'good in the air' and something of a throwback to war films of old.
