A disturbed youth may be a vampire or just a boy with sexual hangups and an appetite for blood.

Having reinvigorated the zombie movie with Day Of The Dead, George A. Romeroís retooling of the vampire myth is typically intelligent, provocative and profound.

Substituting a crazy mixed-up kid (an excellent John Amplas) with a penchant for draining his victims via razor and hypodermic for the traditional be-fanged tomfoolery, Romero locates his horrors in superstition and cruelty - and delivers one of the bleakest endings in horror history.

Gory thriller that makes fun of the vampire myth before the hammer blow of a truly shocking climax.
