Original Title:

Mariachi Gringo

Notwithstanding its reliance on stereotype and contrivance, this genial rite of passage takes the music and culture seriously, as fragile slacker Shawn Ashmore strives to become a mariachi. Moreover, it passes some sly comments on America’s relationship with Mexico.

A road trip movie filled with simple pleasures. Ashmore does a solid job as a mariachi musician without a single grenade-launcher in his guitar case.
