When would-be scriptwriter Angelo (Kirby) falls in love with schoolfriend-turned-cop Nino (Miller), there's just one problem - how to tell his parents, who only want to see their son marry a nice Italian girl, that he's gay.

The resulting mix of farce and melodrama will be familiar to anyone who's seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Suzie Gold or any other recent film designed to highlight the quirks and foibles of its chosen ethnic minority.

It's not without charm, thanks to a hilarious opening reel, Kirby's appealing performance and the banter between Reno and Sorvino - whose speech about Canada being 'the fake America' is a particular highlight.

Lacks sparkle, and finally tips its gallery of colourful protagonists into the realm of caricature.
