Newcomer Tom Taylor will be Jake Chambers in The Dark Tower

With Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey locked in for the lead roles, Dark Tower director Nikolaj Arcel has started building the rest of his cast. Variety is reporting that newcomer Tom Taylor has scored the key part of Jake Chambers.

"Newcomer", of course is a relative term: he's been seen in the likes of Doctor Foster and The Last Kingdom, but this will be his first film role. And quite a role it is... one of the main components of the early Tower stories, Chambers is Roland Deschain's (Elba) protege, a young man with keen survival skills and a natural knack for gunslinging, much like his mentor.

With Mad Max: Fury Road's Abbey Lee aboard in a still mysterious capacity, and a script that has seen work from Akiva Goldsman, Jeff Pinkner, Anders Thomas Jensen and Arcel himself, the Stephen King adaptation is currently targeting a February 2017 release date, and production company Media Rights Capital is hoping it both spawns a film franchise and helps to launch a TV series to run alongside the big screen adventures. But first, the initial movie has to work...
