Unless you are an American 12 year-old girl, the phenomenon that is the Lizzie McGuire TV series has probably happily passed you by. So, to bring you up to speed: Lizzie (15 year-old Duff) is a typically awkward teen with a tiresome younger brother, a boy best friend (Lamberg) who harbours secret feelings for her, and a tendency to get into amusing scrapes.

This movie spin-off transplants her and her pals to Rome on a school trip, where she meets a hunky Italian singer and performs Britney-style pop on stage - a handy way to launch Duff's singing career, with a debut album en route.

An ode to lip gloss, girlie crushes and teenage pop dreams, the film is packaged in a chaste manner by Disney. It'll enchant little girls, but seem a bit stupid to anyone over the age of consent.
