Palestinian widow Hiam Abbass forges unlikely alliances with lawyer Ali Suliman and Rona Lipaz-Michael, the wife of the Israeli defence minister, after she sues him to prevent him from fencing off the lemon grove she inherited from her father. This unduly optimistic saga may not always be the subtlest or provide the most complex analysis of an intractable crisis. But Eran Riklis challenges government policies on confiscation and enclosure and smartly distils the human essence from the political morass that fuels the border tensions. Moreover, he also castigates the chauvinism of males on either side of the chasm, and deftly demonstrates the potential of cinema for shaping public opinion.
