Disney's aim to make live-action versions of all the stories it has previously animated continues! The studio had previously announced that Lady And The Tramp was in development, albeit buried in a general statement about future plans for the streaming service it is launching. The movie took a step closer to reality this week as The Lego Ninjago Movie director Charlie Bean scored the job of making it.

Released in 1955, Lady And The Tramp has long since become a classic Disney 'toon, telling the story of a well-heeled American cocker spaniel called Lady, who meets a street smart mongrel called the Tramp and... well, sparks fly. There is spaghetti.

How the new film will portray the dogs remains to be seen – all CG animals? Probably, given the move towards that, and away from trained critters with animated faces. Andrew Bujalski wrote the script, and at this early stage, there is no word on a release date.
