Happy families in Indian cinema are often driven apart by the ubiquitous Hindi film concept of circumstance, and here we see childhood chums Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit duly separated. Years later theyíre suddenly reacquainted and agree to marry. Love triangles are a common device in Bollywood flicks, and sadly, Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam has nothing new to offer. On the plus side, Salman Khan impresses as a likeable pop singer and, along with a fine performance from Dixit, Shahrukh Khan grapples remarkably well with emotions of envy and suspicion.

Having been friends since childhood, Gopal (Shahrukh) finally finds courage to ask Radha (Madhuri) to marry her, and she accepts, growing to love him over time. When she begins spending time with Suraj (Salman), Gopal becomes suspcious and jealous, leading to dangerous events.
